Ruth and Tony Dargan formed ‘Blackwater’ in 2008. An experienced duo becoming well-known and appreciated for their rich harmonies and an equally rich repertoire – an eclectic mix of their own material as well as well-known and lesser well-known songs.
Ruth started out as a member of ‘Gaelforce’ (as guitarist and backing vocalist) and gigged with them all over the UK and Europe in the 90s. She later played and sang with ‘The Pure Drop’, ‘ Stafford Wells’ and ‘Frigga’. Tony picked up a guitar when he was 13 and started playing around the local folk clubs from the age of 18 and established himself as a solo artiste. He later performed in duos with Tanya Knights, Kevin Coy ( as ‘Harbinger’) and more recently with Alan Gill, playing at venues all over Yorkshire and abroad.
It is no surprise that Ruth and Tony have also established a strong presence on the folk festival scene and have answered regular calls to support a wide range of well known groups and artistes including; Fairport Convention, Wofstone, Martyn Joseph, Dougie Maclean, Dave Swarbrick, Martin Carthy, Chumbawamba and many others.
‘A good night in prospect at The Venue’. As they did the last time they came to us, ‘they will sing and play their hearts out!’
